The Isaac Ray Treatment Center (IRTC) was Indiana’s first building to become LEED Silver certified, and the first government sector healthcare facility in the U.S. to receive this certification. As one of the most recent additions to the long-standing Logansport State Hospital, IRTC focuses on high-risk patients as the first mental health facility of its kind to specialize in therapeutic healing. Its approximately 20 acre site addresses the safety and security of patients, staff and visitors while encouraging healing through recreation in its carefully designed outdoor environment.

7group facilitated an integrative design process and provided LEED consulting, charrette facilitation, energy modeling and consulting, LEED specifications and LEED documentation services for this project. Commissioning services provided by 7group ensured the high performance of this 105-bed mental health facility.

As Indiana's premiere forensic psychiatric evaluation and treatment facility, IRTC provides interdisciplinary training programs that are implemented in patient rehabilitation, including groups on medication management, anger management, coping skills, community reintegration, social skills development and other adult living skills.

The IRTC's yearly energy consumption is 20.7% less than the average for similar facilities, resulting in an annual savings of $40,000, and overall water consumption reductions are projected at over 20%. By focusing on material conservation, the project team developed a construction waste management plan that diverted nearly 90% of the waste generated during construction, and sourced over 60% of all building materials locally. The indoor environment was also designed with rehabilitation in mind, including low-VOC paints, coatings, adhesives and sealants, along with a CO2 and thermal comfort monitoring system to maintain indoor comfort levels and high indoor air quality.
