“The web of life both cradles us and calls us to weave it further.” — Joanna Macy At the heart of 7group’s essence is a web of interrelationships. From the very beginning, we have woven individuals and organizations into a loose, rather organic form, a set of relationships aligned around a direction for a particular purpose – transforming how we are thinking to align with the way nature works. We view the growth and development of our company as a living system, trying to be native and contributory to our place and not behave in invasive ways, not seeking to grow for the sake of growth in an effort to dominate and “weed” out the competition. We are not competitive; therefore, we have no [...]

An Invitation – Not a Job Description

7group constantly seeks to develop its evolving capacity, interested in joining us? We don’t have a job opening per se. There is no job description or list of credentials we seek. We are not implementing a strategic plan by adding specific types of cogs to a machine. Such metaphors are anathema to our approach. We are shifting our thinking away from work as a job where you are told what to do, and then evaluated by a series of metrics. This involves changing our mindset from having a job, to using the company as an instrument to work on what aligns with the gifts each person wants to manifest and what they want to do, not just the partners but everyone. We envision our [...]

Transforming Your Learning

Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. ― Mahatma Gandhi Learning is far more than an accumulation of knowledge and information. The most effective learning is that which is not treated as something separate from our lives, it is basically what we learn along the way if we remain open to doing so. We all know "the school of hard knocks", "practice makes perfect", "lifelong learning", all of which remind us that learning is on-going process. Sometimes this learning is intentional, sometimes not, but it is most effectively absorbed when experienced. We learn best through direct, participatory involvement in whatever it is we wish to better understand. Not hearing is not as good as hearing, hearing [...]

Regenerating 7group

Our journey began more than 25 years ago as we explored what constituted a green building. Our initial focus was on trying to figure out how to implement specific strategies related to technical building systems. We caught the LEED wave very early and worked to help create it in a myriad of ways as it swept across the market. We developed a keen focus on systems thinking and an integrative process. Impactful videos on our approach and projects put us on the map here and abroad. We wrote a book on integrative design with Bill Reed in 2009 that has become the definitive guide on the subject as applied to green building projects. While we still apply an integrative process to all of our [...]
